The global launch of the inaugural Henry Charles Commonwealth Cup brought to you by ‘Catalyst in Communities’, ‘Elevate’ and ‘The Office of the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia’.

On October 12, 2024, a series of events will unfold across three continents, all centered around Bromley Football Club. Located in South East London, this club has just achieved promotion to the English Football League after 132 years, offering an inspiring backdrop for this initiative. The project will extend to major cities across the UK, including England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Internationally, it will also make its mark in Saint Lucia, the hometown of Henry Charles, as well as in India, Pakistan, and Zambia. This global reach underscores our commitment to celebrating the Commonwealth from the very beginning.

The combined GDP of Commonwealth countries in 2021 was $13.1 trillion and is estimated to reach $19.5 trillion in 2027.

The Henry Charles Commonwealth Cup will create opportunities for emerging youth talent and highlight crucial aspects of youth development, in alignment with the Commonwealth Year of Youth, which marks fifty years of its Youth Programme.

Who Was Dr. Henry Charles?

A champion of youth empowerment and resilience, the impact of Dr. Henry Charles extends globally through pivotal roles as regional director at the Commonwealth Secretariat and senior programme specialist for child resilience at UNICEF.

Author of numerous publications, reports and papers on youth participation and policy development. He took on the role as co-chair of the Commonwealth Secretariat Year of Youth 2023 and as a member of the Caribbean Development Bank's Youth Policy and Operational Strategy Reference Group.

His dedication and visionary leadership continue to inspire future generations of youth advocates and practitioners worldwide.

Sadly, Henry passed away during the Year of Youth celebrations and this project serves to preserve his legacy and learning in his honour.
